Daniel Schey
Founder and CEO

Born into a timber family in London, Daniel spent the summers of his childhood with his family in the city of Belem, where a life long interest in all aspects of the Amazon became deeply instilled. From the canopies of the rainforest, to the sounds and scents of the saw mill, a lived education was begun that has culminated, years later, in the formation of Complex Forests and a new generations idea of what commercial forestry and land restoration can look like in the Amazon region today. By combining a genuine understanding of the regional forestry sector, with years of study into alternative models of production rooted in restoration and ecological complexity, Daniel has presented a new version of how timber can be grown in the State of Pará.

Preluding the formation of Complex forests, Daniel spent 10 years working within the music business. This included roles as the Director of Music for Berlin art institution Trauma Bar und Kino, CEO of record labels Thina and Roots By the Oder and business development for London based music supervision agency SixtyFour Music. Curation, storytelling and collaboration are key skills that have been keenly utilised in bringing Complex Forests to life. Fluent in English, with high proficiency in German, and studying Portuguese, he holds a bachelors in Music Business and Production from Westminster University in London.
